Here’s a little cool Greenville fact. And, it’s something you may not even be aware of! Back in November of 1928, Greenville’s Municipal Airport was born. And, “immense crowds” showed up to the grand opening – plus it was place of gathering if you will on Sunday afternoons while families sat and watched planes land.
Had to give you that little preface, because it means that there were thousands of people watching planes on November 13, 1931. And it just so happens that was the day that Amelia Earhart (the first woman to make a trans-Atlantic flight), landed at Greenville’s Municipal Airport!
She spend the afternoon right here in Greenville, and was the guest of the Junior Chamber of Commerce with dignitaries at the Poinsett.
If you’ve never known that before about Greenville, I thought it was really a fun fact to share! Yes, it put Greenville ON THE MAP!

Quick Fall Clean-Up Tips
Need to do a little yard clean-up before it gets chillier?
Here are some great tips on getting your yard cleaned up faster, without having to spend your entire Saturday raking leaves.
- Use a leaf blower to clean out your gutters. If you’ve never done this before, wear older clothers – ones you don’t mind getting dirty. Trust me.
- Mulch your grass instead of bagging. No bagging! Plus, it’s really good fertilizer!
- Make sure your tools are sharp. This is especially if you need to use shearers for bushes. The job will go much faster with sharp blades.
- Raking and bagging your leaves? Rake into rows instead of piles. It’s easier to clean up rows.
- Don’t need to bag your leaves? Rake directly onto a tarp. You can then just pull the tarp to wherever you’d like your leaves to have their final “resting place”.
Hope that helps you out with getting your yard cleaned up this fall!
