Here we are going to look into the new year and see what is coming to our local area. How exciting!
Coming to Powdersville: a new music festival will be happening at the Dolly Cooper Park. Called Rhythm on the River, it is planned for May 2nd. Two acts have been booked: Tugalo Holler and Rhythm City Band. There will be kids’ activities and food trucks. Admission is FREE. They are planning for it to be an annual event.
Mauldin Approves: a major piece to the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail project is falling into place in Mauldin. The city council approved the construction of a bridge over I-385 that will connect the Swamp Rabbit Trail between Mauldin and Simpsonville, Fountain Inn and farther. The city approved $5 million for the project and it will not require a millage or tax increase or use property tax dollars. Hospitality and accommodations tax funds will pay for it. Design will begin in 2020 before construction and is projected to take 12 to 18 months to complete. Mauldin Mayor-Elect Terry Merritt says he is hoping to have a section of trail paved along Easter Butler Road from Main Street out to the Laurens Electric Cooperative easement by the summer of 2020. They have already begun their participation by starting design and construction on a ¼ mile section of the trail across the street from the high school.
