Hacks are just plain out fun! I mean, imagine taking a walk in your development and seeing your neighbor outside with a few containers of salt. You’d question what he/she is doing, wouldn’t you? Or, at the very least, you would definitely wonder what they’re up to.
Well, I took the liberty of looking up some hacks pertaining to salt. We all know the normal ones (hardboiling eggs, de-icing your driveway when it snows), but did you know you can use salt, regular old table salt, for many uses right outside your door?
Don’t worry – I didn’t either. But check this out!
De-ice your windshield on your car – just put some salt into a small mesh bag. When you know it’s going to be cold out and there’s a possibility of frost in the morning, rub the bag all over your car windows the night before. That action alone is supposed to keep your car windows from frosting over!
Weeds in the cracks of your sidewalk – now, don’t do this directly in your garden because you’ll kill all of your plants. But, if you have weeds in the cracks of your sidewalk, just sprinkle some salt into the cracks before it rains. Or, if you’re too impatient to wait until it rains, add 1 cup of salt to 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Then, pour that into the cracks, In about 2 hours, your weeds will be completely dead and you’ll be able to pull them out ????
Ouch, a bee sting! Put a little bit of water on the sting, then put salt on top. Instant relief! Works with mosquito bites too!
And, this one is my favorite. If you have poison ivy in your yard, this is for you! Get rid of that annoying plant with a mixture of 1 cup of salt, 1 gallon of water and a tablespoon of dish soap. Mix that all together and pour it into a spray bottle. If you have the large insecticide sprayer, that’s going to work the best for this job. You may need to reapply this several times to keep poison ivy at bay, but it will kill the plant!

Need To Stretch Your Paws?
Need to “stretch your paws” this Saturday? Sunday is going to be all rainy and blech, so Saturday might be the better bet with getting some fresh air.
If you’re a dog owner – it might be a great day to stretch your pooch’s paws too! Here are some local places which are great where you can take a walk together, and enjoy the scenery along the way.
Falls Park on the Reedy – This 32 acre park shows off the Reedy as it’s natural showpiece.
Swamp Rabbit Trail – A 23 mile long path which is also traveled by bikers and joggers alike! A bonus – you can stop off at the Swamp Rabbit Brewery where your pooch is allowed to hang out too!
Conestee Nature Preserve – This wildlife sanctuary is over 600 acres! And, if you prefer an “off leash excursion” for your dog, you can take advantage of the dog park located in the preserve.
And Paris Mountain State Park – You’ll both enjoy the opportunity to access 15 miles of hiking trails through the woodlands. Not to mention, you can let your dog take a dip in one of the four lakes for some cool-off time!
And one last thing – did you know that Greenville has several food tours you can take part in? It’s a great way to get to know our area – whether you’ve lived here for a little while or are just visiting. Besides, we’d love to see you come back again and again!
Check this tour out – it’ll take you to several of our local BBQ eateries.
