A Good Reason to Live in Greenville SC

A Good Reason to Live in Greenville SC

This summer there will be another good reason to live in Greenville SC. As work is set to continue the new Woodruff Road bypass there is hope that it will relieve the congestion on the main road.

This new parkway will use a collection of dead-end streets to connect Verdae Blvd to the heart of the congestion. An unexpected bonus will be the new connector will have an extra bike/pedestrian path.

The city gave an additional $410,000 to get the 10-foot wide path for multiuse and to add street lights along the two-lane, half-mile connector. The new path will become a connection to Woodruff Road from where the Swamp Rabbit Trail will be extended into Verdae. This is part of a 2007 initiative to include bike and pedestrian paths along with all new street construction.

This project will use a traffic circle to connect Woodruff Industrial to Green Heron Road and another one to connect Ketron Court to Verdae Blvd. Traffic circles are widely used in Europe to keep traffic moving in a controlled environment without all the stop-and-go created by using traffic lights.

A huge benefit will come from the bike/pedestrian path creation. There is a movement in the U.S. today to make our cities more pedestrian friendly in hopes to persuade people to leave their cars at home and seek alternate transportation.

Retail News

Charlotte Russe has gone out of business and closed all its stores including the Haywood Mall location in Greenville SC. The Chapter 11 bankruptcy of Charlotte Russe is the latest in the struggles of mall retailers across the U.S. and Canada. J. Crew closed its Haywood Mall store in January. After 44 years, the retailer is liquidating all its assets. According to Frances Harder (Fashion for Profit Author), “People are not shopping at malls anymore. They are buying online. It’s not just Charlotte Russe, but all of the brick-and-mortar stores that are in trouble.”

Makes you wonder what the future will look like when everything is bought online or through an app and there are no more stores. Make sure you support your local establishments and give them a shout out on social media.
