October Events

Greer SC – the city announced it will hold a special outdoor dining event in October. The redesigned Trade Street will be closed and feature outdoor dining every Friday next month. There will also be live music, valet parking and merchant deals with extended store hours just for the events. The hope is to increase foot traffic and exposure to existing, new and coming businesses. The first event will be October 2nd.

AlbinoSkunk Music Festival Garden Party – October 1-4, 2020. Happens at the Skunk Farm music and camping venue in Upstate South Carolina at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There will be limited capacity. Check out their website for more info: albinoskunk.com/garden-party.

14th Annual Mac Arnold Cornbread & Collard Green Beans Festival – October 15-17, 2020. City of Fountain Inn downtown. Three days of live music, food, kids’ entertainment, and more. Boo in the Zoo – October 15 to November 1, 2020. Greenville Zoo. Recurring weekly on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. TorT admission: $9 members, $12 non-members. Non-TorT admission: members free, $10 non-members. Timed entrance and limited attendance will be observed. Pre-purchase your tickets. Walk-ups not permitted. Bring your own bag for TorT. All guests over age 2 must wear a face covering. Arrive at your assigned time.

First Fridays Gallery Crawl – Recurring monthly on the 1st Friday. Various galleries in downtown Greenville SC. Twenty-five art galleries and venues will be offering local, regional and national talents. Price is free! Check out their website for more details: firstfridaysgreenville.com.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reported last week that their Housing Market Index (HMI) hit an all-time 35-year history high with a score of 83. This index gauges the perceptions of current single-family home sale builders on what their sale expectations will be for the next six months as well as looking at traffic for new homes of prospective buyers.

When the stay at home order was originally mandated, confidence dropped dramatically. But since that dip bottomed in April, it has soared back to above where it was before the mandate. Looking at their numbers, the Northeast increased the most points.

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) put out a separate report that showed mortgage applications for new home purchases increased by 33% over a year ago. Once again, experts are citing historically low mortgage rates and buyers seeking more space as the main drivers for the resurge.
