Grandma’s Cleaners

grandma's cleaners

There was a day when our world was not over chemicalized and quick-fix oriented. A time when knowledge about using natural products to help clean and beautify your environment before DOW chemicals. Well, I found these real easy cleaning recipes that your grandma may have used with a special natural ingredient to make your home smell sweet.

I am talking about all-natural essential oils. Use these to add hint of aroma in the following recipes and clean without harsh chemicals.

All-Purpose Citrus Cleaner

  • 15 drops of oil of lemon
  • 5 drops of oil of sweet orange
  • 5 drops of oil of rosemary
  • ¼ cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1 ½ cups of filtered water

Put all ingredients in a spray bottle, seal and gently shake. The vinegar will be strong for a bit, but its scent disappears, and you’re left with the lingering citrus zing. Bonus; lemon oil is a natural disinfectant; orange oil breaks down grease and rosemary oil have both antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

Window Cleaner with Lemon

  • 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 10 drops oil of lemon

Again, mix in a spray bottle then use on glass surfaces and polish with a microfiber cloth. The lemon oil will kill off any bacteria present.

Toilet’ de Eucalyptus Cleaner

  • 25 drops oil of eucalyptus
  • 1/3 cup castile soap
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 1/3 cups baking soda

Use a squeeze bottle and fill with the water, baking soda and eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus is a natural germicide. Seal and shake, add the Castile soap, shake. Apply to toilet bowl and let set for 15 minutes, then scrub with toilet brush as usual and flush with clean water.

These are just a few of the many natural recipes for cleaning that will help you use less chemicals in your home. Essential oils not only make things smell better then have actual cleansing properties too! Let me know in the comments below if you decide to try one of these formulas.
